To follow up to NU91. I believe "683" was more casual society that was known for the Ball and Bats softball tournament they used to go on an annual basis. It was to raise money and the number came as a sort of joke/mocking of 572.
I believe the Night Riders are "192". I believe they might still be on the campus as I know of new members tapped as late as 2001.

S&S, the night riders both ride on. Jackman can not stop something started long before them, and will live on long after they are gone. Essayons, GTE

Does anyone know the meaning of the 145 that the Norwich Independent Battery uses?

I am a senior at Norwich and a member of the Norwich Independent Battery. If you want to know what 145 means than you should have came out for candidacy, even though you probably wouldn't have made it.

why are the The Mechanics interested in the 1919 yearbooks, (and why wont anyone from the university be anything resembling help in finding out what happened in 1919)?
why does the mechanics page mention LRS, Lawrence Stillman, and another set of initials, I know Stillman the S&S kid when they're quite clearly not S&S, as the yearbook features that years S&S openly, as all did then?
the mechanics have to be related to S&S/NR in some way
S&S is said, in several yearbooks, to have been founded in 1921. the first members are viewable in the 1922 yearbook as juniors, and there are 13 of them, by the next year it grows to 15 and some change, leave the school, others take their place, for whatever reasons, i obviously do not do. the theory of 572 being either 18 or 1957 is wrong, as i've said, it's publicly acknowledged to have been founded in 1921, but is 1919 not a possibility as well? as the yearbook is very cryptic, and mentions a secretive meeting in 1919, which would have seen half that class's sophomore year??

Ding Dong sounds like a douche. Must be pretty tough training to fire blanks all day. I only poke fun at him because of his "you probably wouldn't have made it" comment. Just sounds like an ass.
As for 1919. The Centennial. Centennial Stairs were built that year. Ever wonder what's buried underneath them? Every wonder what happened during the construction of them?

What if I told you that the Night Riders had a commandant in Jackman Hall that not only knew of their existence but also personally met with and approved all of their potential candidates? How do I know this? I was approached by the Night Riders during my sophomore year and told that I would be contacted by this commandant and when I met with him to be honest about my recruitment. I decided that I was not interested a few days later but I always wondered about how far the society went. To be clear, I am not saying that I know there is still an approving authority for the Night Riders in Jackman Hall (My experience was many years ago) but at one time there defiantly was!

Y’know, the best place to find answers to all these questions is to crash the Skull and Swords luncheon in Milano ballroom on Alumni weekend this year.

Lawrence Stillman's skull is buried underneath! Actually, I have no idea what's buried underneath them. Just thought I would add to the rumor mill ridiculousness.

Who are the Mechanics? What do you mean by interest in the 1919 yearbook? All this stuff seems kind of scary to me. I don’t know why people would make secret clubs unless they were up to no good.

Can anyone tell me about the cadet who dug a hole under his room in the old south barracks and then began holding initiations down there? All I know is "it ended sadly" What happened? Someone knows, I read that it is a story passed down each year.

Did you know that The Regulators (first secret society at Norwich) held thier annual meetings on 22 dec in Boston. But then they disappeared in 1856! Where did they go?! Did you know that Theta Chi was started by 3 regulators in 1856 but had to reorganize in 1857 becuase someone stole thier secret hand shake. Did you know that the first Alumni association of Thea Chi meet yearly on 22 DEC in Boston? It's true you can find these little tid bits in Theta Chi and norwich history books. Oh and of course you know Skull and Swords has their annual dinner in Boston on 22 DEC. My question is did the Regulators and Theta Chi alums also meet at the Union oyster house? It been there as a restrain well before 1840.
