Not all of us have involvement with the various societies. They are fine benchmarks for one's dedication tot he cause regardless of societal affiliation 572/192/And a few additional numbers I will not mention. But are not inclusive of all those who hold the Norwich Spirit dear to thier hearts and in the front of their minds.
Norwich has seen the Spanish armada falter, The 3rd Reich come and go, the British empire dissolve back to a tiny island in the North Atlantic and now the US being nearly shoulder to shoulder with other nations instead of utterly abreast.
But in the end, institutions still remain. Remain true to the Norwich spirit In times of change, it may be the last thing there is left.

I am also curious to learn more about Skull and Swords for obvious reasons i have made a email account for this newgenerationnucc@gmail.com , i have talked to some swordsman already and am skeptical to believe the traditions have died. I would like some more information and also would like to know if the last official class is still active on this forum. If you have any knowledge or have any questions of what i have gathered so far feel free to contact me at the email. I feel the link to saving what is left of the corps we need to take a closer look at the past and what kept it going for over the years.
One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present. ~Golda Meir

NU99 and others,
Yes this is true that not all forum members and or guests have societal affiliations. However, on the flip side, there are obviously select individuals who do. Several people in this forum have stated and or mentioned in so few words that they are in different organizations whether they meant current, inactive, old bones, or what have you.
My reason for mentioning this is because there are people who read this that have significant knowledge about the topics discussed on this forum. Consequently, I am sure that there are school officials that read this as well.
Not that that matters cause S&S was disbanded on April 18, 1997, after failing to stand down, cease and desist for one year in order "to work on a new charter, selection process, and mission." (Memo, Schneider)
***This does not mean however that contacts can not be made through reading, responding to, and answering questions from other members. If the questions get to detailed naturally one can tell them that they do not have a need to know. OR Contact them on the side for further discussion. Additionally, NU alums are worldwide. With that so are various society members in high ranking positions also around the world and close to home. Just thought that i would throw that out there.***

Murph148, Send me an email. It would be much appreciated. red.horse24@gmail.com Red Horse Nucc98 is right. Secret societies including S&S, were, and still are, honorable organizations with mission statements of preserving the honor of the school. Some immature members in the past, however, have given the organizations a bad name. Remember, if you were a member of a secret society, would you voice it out loud? Smart members would not be so foolish. They have existed for many years and some of them still exist today. Norwich is a rumor mill, so don't believe everything you hear. On the other hand, some of the rumors and things are true. My advice to cadets...do your homework and don't believe anything you hear unless you can prove it to be true yourself. The answers are available...do your research and talk to the RIGHT PEOPLE. Just don't be stupid. Jackman is always on a witch hunt to keep the school out of the papers and avoid bad press. One more thing. Jackman tells you that secret societies are a thing of the past because they want you to believe it. Would you believe everything the administration tells you? This great institution is ours, not theirs. We have eyes of our own. -GTE-

I'm not sure if I was meant to be included as having an affiliation, but I will say that I don't have one. I was never a member of a society, secret or not.
The most I can claim was being a member of 527, and that may have been given to us by the commandants. The bunch of delinquints that are my rook buddies and a number of other friends ended up with that tag my senior year (96-97) because every night we came into the mess hall at 5 and sat around drinking coffee and making asses of ourselves to the general public until 7 when it closed. 5 to 7, 527, it still amuses me. One tag that was dropped on us by the commandants was "India Company Mafia" and that still makes me smile.
As for other people here, members or guests, I'll hazard a guess that they are here. This site was not created to be a secret and I just found out that a search on google of "skull swords norwich" without the quotes gets a link to this specific thread as the first hit. No such luck with "secret society norwich" or "night riders norwich."
Do I know people with a society link? Yes. I hung out with some of them last year on Alumni weekend.
This thread was set up with a boatload of disclaimers about expectations of privacy. (look for the capital letters at the top of the page.) We (mods) are not going to try to pretend that this is a private site. If you lay it out here Google will find it and after that anyone who knows how to ask Google the right questions will find it. I suspect that would be 90% of people that were paid or paid to step foot on the campus.
Could we set up a private board or thread for discussions? Absolutely. Would people with an affiliation sign up for it? Probably not. Go watch Fight Club. I'm not affiliated, and with my penchant for privacy, I would not want a 3rd party running a board where I discuss my secrets and allowing people to be admitted to watch or ask questions. If I am wrong, send me a PM and I will see what I can do.

This thread seems to be one people want to talk about and probably the only one that doesn't get covered by official emails from the school or up on Norwich.edu, and likely the topic that found you to this site. If it is not, I'd really like to know because we have a possibility for a new thread. The worst case is that we have one more person waiting to see what else will show up here. -Berube

I am a current Student at Norwich, and the nap time for freshmen is something that was just given, because of the " poor Grades" the class has received. Not many freshmen I have talked to have taken this privilege that has been handed to them. Most believe that they must earn these like the ones who came before them, and not take.

I think that nap privilege has been given before. I think that I remeber it when I was there 1993-1997. Also its not like freshmen don't find some other way to take naps, like in their rooms we did it all the time

I was a memeber of the corps and the artillery section from 90-94. Many of the questions that have been asked I have answers to. 192/145, However telling the tales of secret societies defeats the primary purpose of their being. It is much greater to wonder than to actually discover. Buy one of us a beer at alumni weekend and we might divulge some knowledge that you seek

Wow. Interesting to read this stuff. I remember the Batman stuff back in the early 90s and a lot of it I recal was generated out of the same gossip that floats across this board.
I'm sure some of you remember the accused former cadet who murdered the prostitutes and claimed hazing and the Riders as part of his defense? Well the Riders was the big gossip topic on the Hill back then. Now it seems that S&S has followed them. I think its too bad that they have been disbanded but I don't believe for an instant that they did anything but go underground. A group like that just doesn't disappear into thin air because the university says so.
I'm sure the Riders still exist on campus in some form too. It's all part of the mystique of our alma-mater and if nothing else it provides an interesting read for me when I should be doing my NU grad homework! LOL
