Norwich Honor Code
The Honor Code provides a foundation for a way of life, and for the development of self-respect, good character, loyalty, justice and generosity. The Honor Code requires that every student conduct himself/herself in a completely honest and forthright manner at all times.
The Honor Code describes the standard of ethical behavior that all students have chosen to live by. Its underlying principle is truth and means a Norwich University student will not:
Lie, Cheat, Steal,
Evade the Truth, Deceive, or
Tolerate those who do.
It is the responsibility of every student to uphold the Honor Code, and thus uphold the good name of Norwich University.
Students who commit an Honor Code Violation off campus may be charged with Bringing Discredit Upon the University. In addition, a student who is caught attempting to violate the Honor Code but does not actually commit the violation, will be charged with the violation.
Lying is defined by the University as making any statements which are known to be untrue.
Cheating is defined by the University as stealing ones ideas or words.
Acts of academic dishonesty are violations of the Honor Code. See the Academic Rules and Regulations guide for more information on academic dishonesty.
Stealing is defined by the University as taking any articles from an establishment or another person without the explicit permission of the person who owns the item.
Evading the truth is defined by the University as avoiding a direct answer by either cleverness or deceit.
Deceiving is defined by the University as allowing another person to believe what is not true.
Toleration is defined by the University as not responding to students who are breaking the Honor Code.
