yea, im posting this in the kvetching part of the forum for the simple fact that i dont know all of the facts and that some of the things ive heard could be an over exaggeration or just plain false. but first off, im ripped that its 90% likely that Junior Ring leave is cancelled for freshman and mabye even sophomores. but yea, so last saturday, there was a comedian and a movie in dole like there usually is, well after the comedian some charlie freshmen left dole and then the campus to go to a womens basketball team party. to just list some of the things that happened both at the party and on campus: - a girl whom i know pretty well got alcohol poisoning and had her stomach pumped...VAPPED
- 4 or 5 of her rook buddies also VAPPED
- atleast 2 freshmen in the same company were caught with marijuana and COCAINE (that is confirmed)
- one of those kids decided the smart thing to do was to slit his wrist...but only enough so he could get attention instead of killing himself, and after slitting his wrist tried to jump out of a 5th story window of Goodyear.
- around 6 or 7 upperclassmen VAPPED
- 45/45 and 30/30 CMCs handed out all over the place as well as expulsions
- and the only reason why i really care, junior ring leave (more than likely) revoked for all freshmen, as well as maybe sophomores. meaning that all companies who sent in the down payments for their junior ring house lost that money...
happiness all around if anyone has heard anything else or feels ive been mistaken or even thinks im just a raving lunatic, please post

Wow. Sounds like lots of trouble going on in that company.
I've changed the title of this post because it isn't exactly in accordance with our rules of conduct as per the second paragraph. (It can also be viewed from the homepage when it's the most recent post.)
However, we're not giving you a "warning" because you were thoughtful to place this post in the appropriate section.
Thanks, NUCCRanger07 for that. Everyone else, continue to feel free to comment.

I used to be cadre for Charlie Company in 99 during my sophomore year, We had some lesser problems with drinking ect. but that's a long story. Anyhow get ready for another tradition to snatched away from you by our beloved mismanaged Jackmann (I bet Alonzo is pissed) If they put the corps back to the it should be and got rid of that ridiculous VAP rule, cadets might calm down. The kids caught with the drugs should be punished, counseled and put in a program I hope they are not thrown out, after all kicking kids out of school for alcohol hasn’t really worked! It's only a matter of time before they get rid of the corps sighting that it's to big of a liability, that’s what has happened to our 185 year history so by our last few administrators. By the time you get to your junior year you'll just get your ring in the mail. PS Amanda I don't think we know each other. We were at the school at the same time (although I punched out a bit early) anyhow I read your interview that you did with the commandant of cadets in 02 over the dismissal of some cadets very professional interview.

Hey BL, Thanks for the compliment! (I recognized that we were there at the same time from your post.) I think we have some mutual friends. If you register and send me a PM, or email me at norwichforum@yahoo.com, we can discuss further. -AT If anyone is curious about the interview with the former Commandant of Cadets/VP Student Affairs, it can be found online in The Norwich Guidon's online archives here: www.norwich.edu/guidon/2002feb07/mckean.html

Amanda, I read the interview that you posted the link to... Only it seems to start in the middle of the story talking about a meeting and investigations into groups but no details. I know I have heard rumors but are there any facts? Is there any more info you would care to share? Dunny

Hey Dunny,
Well, in that same online archived issue is the story I also wrote about the explusion of the LOS. --It's a separate story, but it's got most of the facts in narrative form.
Just after the expulsion (or before it came to light) the Commandant had a meeting with the Senior cadets. (I was allowed to attend, but the meeting was "off the record.") At the end of that meeting, I told him that we needed to sit down "on the record." The "on the record" contents are that Q and A interview. The interview is meant to supplement the story, because he called the senior class to a meeting because of the investigation.
It seems to start "in the middle" because I didn't get a chance to ask a question first. He had a student at the meeting the night before accuse him of being on a witch hunt, so he didn't let me get the first "shot," as it were, with regard to the interview.
Literally weeks later, the Night Riders were under investigation and were asked to leave the university by the end of the semester.
As is always the case when reporting a story, the reporter is told things (for instance, when asked to go "off the record") that don't and can't for ethical reasons appear in the story. --Believe me, there's always more, but nothing I'd feel comfortable sharing. There was something in each Guidon issue for that semester. (Spring '02)
Needless to say, Col. McKean became very unpopular with the student body. President Schneider asked for his resignation during the fall semester of 2002.

Violation of the Alcohol Policy- Something that became very common when Norwich became a dry campus and switched to a "two strikes and you're out" rule.

My platoon sergeant was a charlie co. rook when that happened. Funny thing is, my company is now on that same floor (5th deck of goodyear) where he was as a freshman. he pointed out the room the kids with the cocaine were in. that must have been a crazy night.

Those kids sound like tool bags, VAPS are always going to happen there..its the nature of the beast, but cocaine wtf? Too bad he was too stupid to kill himself the first time while slitting his wrists...way to go hero. We never had bad drug issues in Charlie CO while I was there, just drinking and raising hell...because that what Charlie Cobras do. "He who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother"
