Russians visit Norwich to learn about youth leadership development

Russian researchers on a mission to learn more about Youth Leadership Development programs in the United States spent several hours on the Norwich University campus on November 5. The five-member delegation, visiting Vermont under the auspices of the Open World Program of the Library of Congress, were particularly interested in leadership programs with an environmental or outdoor focus.
After welcoming the five-member delegation, Skip Davison, Norwich Director of Recruitment, gave a PowerPoint Presentation in Roberts Hall on Future Leader Camps, which take place at Norwich during two two-week sessions every summer. Davison's presentation, delivered through an interpreter, was followed by a question and answer period during which student counselors from the FLC related some of their own leadership experiences. The evening's programming concluded with the opportunity for more impromptu conversation regarding leadership, over dinner in Harmon Hall.
The five Russian visitors were Mayya Aistova, from St. Petersburg, (the group's facilitator); Maktina Bartsits from Nizhniy, Novgorod; Sergey Miroshnichenko, from Tver; Anna Obushenkova from Magadan; and Ruslan Shchuchinov from Barnaul (Altai Krai).
The delegation was escorted to Norwich by Carol Casey, a volunteer with the Vermont Council on World Affairs, a non-profit organization that provides a non-partisan forum for citizen participation in world affairs.
