Probably one of the longest standing rumors is the existence of "The Tunnels." I even know people who will swear they have been in the tunnels. There was a good article about this in the Guidon last year. www.norwichguidon.com/tunneling-through-the-norwich-rumor-mill-1.1825846#.TuESqbK5MbII can vouch for Mr. Lords claim that, "The truth is, the tunnels do not exist..." I worked at NU a few years back while a number of construction projects were underway. I have seen the blue prints of the underground structures, which are required by law, around the area of the UP. While I don't think the Dig Safe laws take into account "secret tunnels," they do require steam tunnels to be documented. I saw no sizable "tunnels" in the area of the UP in the blueprints. There are structures that support the steam plant, but nothing large enough to crawl through, let alone stand up in. Wally

The tunnels do exist. I have been in them and you do not want to go there, Its an evil place. The 13 gates of hell have connection and clues as to find the entrance but be canny. Once in its hard to overcome.

Does anybody have any solid info on where the entrances are on campus and why they were blocked off? Why is it bad to enter the tunnels..?

Face the chapel and time will tell. Those who say don't know. Those who know don't say.

Why is it that so many former S&S members are actively involved in the school and the boards associated with the school ? Are we returning on a regular basis to tend to the business that has been ongoing for close to 100 years? You are on to something with the tunnels and the 13 gates of hell are the only clue that can be given. Study it but think about it from angles that are the opposite of what is revealed. Let is right, right is left, up is down and down is up. You are best off to not seek it out. The secrets of S&S have remained intact since 1921 and not one member has revealed what has occurred to them or the responsibility they bear to each other. While it may on the surface appear glorious to be a member of S&S, the burden we live with and the things seen in those tunnels will remain unspeakable forever.

I think it is or was the building for architecture students. When they built the new library, they renovated the old on for the architecture programs when they brought civilians to the Northfield campus. I can tell you there used to be an entrance to a tunnel that was large enough to stand in that used to accessible in the basement of the old library. Several students had even signed the walls down in the tunnel.

Type into google maps "26 cemetery st. Northfield VT." Grab some bolt cutters and underneath the 1867 cornerstone there is a large door that is locked. Cut the bolt and then you will enter the "gates of hell." Pretty sure I am the only Norwich university student who has done it. Go see for yourself!
