The most I can claim was being a member of 527, and that may have been given to us by the commandants. The bunch of delinquints that are my rook buddies and a number of other friends ended up with that tag my senior year (96-97) because every night we came into the mess hall at 5 and sat around drinking coffee and making asses of ourselves to the general public until 7 when it closed. 5 to 7, 527, it still amuses me. One tag that was dropped on us by the commandants was "India Company Mafia" and that still makes me smile. -Berube Funny you mention that society. By the time I was indoctrinated they called it "Flock of Seagulls" (FOS) and even gave it a number like the other societies: 111. Back when I was a rook, I went through the 90-day wonder program because I'd already done a year at the Air Force Academy. They threw me out because I couldn't pass Calculus. Some cadets might also remember me as the guy who fell off Plumpley Armory after hanging a banner with the word "Tradition" on it over a drawing of the Grim Reaper. (Long story) Anyway, I remember back in 96-97 being over in the mess hall side with the upperclassmen and having nobody I knew to sit with or talk to. It was really funny looking back, because I'd look at you 527 guys at the back table and wish I was part of the crowd. Senior year I was invited there and fit right in, and many of our "members" were also in other secret societies. I know of 2 Bonesmen, one LOS member, and a Night Rider being among us in 1999, but we used to always make fun of the other societies and laugh about ourselves being considered one. It was all a joke, and we called ourselves "the back table" more often than FOS. At the same time all of us were very passionate about the history of the school. We all went to great lengths to find out what went on in the past and why, and we were always griping about "the old corps" vs. "the new corps." I learned a great deal about all of the secret societies despite never really being in one. I am a writer, so I will definitely write a novel about Norwich someday. If anyone has any crazy stories they'd like me to include, feel free to drop me a line at rich.bergeron@gmail.com. S&S was still active during my time at school, and I remember the cadet colonel getting busted and how the underground tradition persisted. Norwich brass cracked down on these societies over the years, but they just became more secretive as a result. I went to VMI on an exchange program in 1998 and looked through their history books to find their own secret society "The Molly McGuires." I think it was named after a group of bandit protestors in the 1800s if I remember correctly.

I agree, and KRB as in KRB Flint has a certian "572" ring about it....look at the numbers on any conventional phone pad. Curious but could that be the 572 connection? How long have phones had letters under the numbers? It seems to be a little too unlikely that this KRB phone scenario would be the basis for 572 when it seems like 572 goes way back to the time before phones even had number pads at all. Common sense tells me this analysis is bunk.

Regarding yearbooks,
Just wondering, had anyone thought that there was not enough paper around, or that there was some sort of rationing going on during the 1918-1919 year.
My grandfather left that year to head to Europe. He returned and graduated in '21. He had me by about sixty years.
Sometimes, when there are things like wars going on they don't do yearbooks.
Just sayin'.

There is proof within this school of an entire class of cadet being members of the KKK

Does anyone know if the Knight Riders (192) are still active on campus? I know that the current Dean does not like them, and that they were very vocal about how the Dean was eradicating the University's traditions in 96-97. I was just wondering if despite probably being forced to go underground,if they still kept old traditions alive.

It is funny reading all this stuff. I will say this. Some of this is true, most of it not. Please don't put people's names on here. It doesn't hurt being S & S after graduating. You would be suprised.

The tunnels have been sealed off for good, with the exception of one hidden entrance. The key still works as of 2 years ago.

Just found this forum... was at NU singing "On the Steps of Jackman" in 1969 as a rook. S+S became a real part of my life for years. Mixed feelings about the official end of the brotherhood in Northfield, but it does live on with some of us, for better or worse. Mostly better in the sense of comraderie, and knowing you had somebody's back, and he had yours.

I enjoy coming back and checking this page every six months or so. This forum is pretty much dead except for this thread which has been going for years now. I love it.
A word of caution, beware those professing the secrets to the Illuminati or the hidden meaning to 8675309. The old saying still applies from the keepers of hidden knowledge to guys coming back from deployments: "Those who know, don't speak; and those who speak, don't know."
If you are itching to start your own group and go save the old corps (which is always no older than when your rook year seniors where rooks) from the new corps, I ask, to what purpose? with what guidance?
What are you going to do? Thank you sir, may I have another?
Your sole purpose is to get an education, build the closest friendships you will ever forge and experiences unique to Norwich alone and above all, graduate (fingers crossed, Commission). Because within her hollowed halls, Norwich will try her best to trip you up in that endeavor.
My name is Colm Walker. I graduated in 2005. My email is colm.walker@gmail.com. Remember its easy to post things when you are anonymous.
For those on the hunt, have fun. Her secrets are part of what makes Norwich special.

I have to agree with the Rook here (Im a sophomore as well). For one, the post was made DURING Rook Week, when attitude problems are still being worked out. And frankly, we acted like we owned the place by mid September anyway. The ass-chewings didnt happen for us outside either - when we got back to barracks though, it was a whole different story. And after being on several freshmen decks in the evenings, I can attest that the cadre are still continuing on with the tradition.

So...I was just at wick this a few days ago for Alumni weekend. Looks like some Night Rider wannabees decided to hang a sign around the neck of the Partridge Statue. The sign said something to the affect of "I'm disappointed in how the corp is being run now blah blah blah" signed..."192".
Now...couple thoughts I wanted to share...
1. I noticed that there was possibly no returning 192 alumni present throughout the weekend. Perhaps this was some sort of boycott on NU.
2. It's possible that this sign was put up by a bunch a wannabees 192s
3. It's possible that this sign was put up by actual 192s.
4. And Finally....who ever put the sign up, it really looked like Sh*t. It was on a crappy piece of ripped cardboard and the hand writing looked like it was done by either a drunk person or a 4 year old. It really made 192 look like a bunch of immature dingleberries. Nice job on that one. Next time, at least make it look cool and serious. Rather than some sorry attempt to say something profound. Think people. Think.

let me start off by saying that reading everyone's post here has been both interesting and educational to say the least. i am a legacy and a member of 145. i have seen first-hand a lot of NU's history and have undertaken the task of finding out some of the information that has been discussed here, i.e. tunnels, s&s, + kr. i found multiple entrances to the tunnels while i was on campus, in addition to other random things that happened to peak my interest at the time. just for the record, the tunnels are no longer accessible, as of 2 years ago, they've been sealed. the architecture building is a good place to start. the others are harder to find. sabine has some secrets too. the chapel, as has been noted, does too.
i am looking for any information that can be had about the following: 1. the harmon guns, where are they and what is their condition? did they really sell them? as shed staff said, this university has a great way of trying to distroy it's past in order to better represent it's current position. 2. what is the status of the Gatling gun, there were rumours about it during candidacy and i would appreciate clarification, since if i'm not mistaken, it used to be next to the guard shack? 3. everyone talks about the down fall of the MPs and there were a lot of rumours on the hill as to what actually happened. therefore, maybe not specific clarification, due to loyalty issues, but generally, what actually happened? 4. is the rumour about the tank being taken to the jail to get a friend out and the ensuing debacle actually true? 5. having worked in the library during work study, i have had access to a lot of the material. what's the deal with the connection between 145 and jackman? specifically, what's with the cross-hairs? i was never able to find anything definitive. 6. in most stories that are considered to be simply rumours, there are always certain silver linings that can be detected, therefore, what's the deal with s&s/kr? having done my own digging, i've come up with most of the stuff listed here, plus somethings that haven't been discussed. i truly understand - Lend every man thine ear, but few thy tongue. For those who know do not speak and those who speak do not know - i wouldn't have gotten my guns if that weren't the case. that said, if something happened to materialize, anything tangible that is, i would be greatly appreciate it. 7...8...9 etc. the list goes on...
as a sign of good faith, pain is deliverance through defeat. through pain strives discipline...additionally, what was that god's name again? all i want are answers. if contact were to be made, it would be greatly appreciated. like i said, i'm a legacy, so knowing this information is rather important to me. the past should stay in the past, yes. however, the information is too valuable to not pass on. after all, if you do not know your own history, you are bound to repeat your mistakes. thank you in advance for taking the time to consider this request and possibly even respond. my email: nu145knowledge@gmail.com
